INSURANCE DIRECTOR ANNOUNCES THE CREATION OF A DRAFTING COMMITTEE TO DEVELOP THE CONSUMER INFORMATION AND COVERAGE SELECTION FORM REQUIRED BY SENATE BILL 1445

John A. Greene, the Director of the Arizona Department Of Insurance announced today the creation of a drafting committee to develop the Consumer Information And Coverage Selection Form required by Senate Bill 1445. This new law, involving the sale of motor vehicle liability insurance in Arizona, was enacted by the legislature during the recently completed legislative session.

The drafting committee will assist the Department in the development of the form prescribed by Senate Bill 1445 to alert consumers to the coverages available, to explain these coverages, and to identify some of the factors consumers should take into account when purchasing motor vehicle insurance coverage. The coverages to be explained in the form include bodily injury, property damage, uninsured motorist, underinsured motorist, collision, comprehensive, and medical payments coverages.

"The purchase of a car represents the second largest financial decisions to be made by most Arizonans. The choices a consumer makes about the insurance to buy to protect the car and the investment are critical to the protection and preservation of the car and the investment," said Greene. "The legislature's requirement of the development and use of a form in both English and Spanish will permit consumers in this state to make informed decisions about the purchase of these important coverages."

The English language draft version of the form can be viewed from the Department's internet web site. The address for this site is http://www.state.az.us/id. "I encourage anyone interested in the form to access the form through the Department's web site and to send their comments about the form to the Department," said Greene. "As the drafting committee revises the form, the web site will be updated. In addition, the Department will place the final form on the web site."

The drafting committee's members include Lanny Hair, Jeff Hoffman, Richard Langerman, and Phyllis Rowe. The drafting committee will be chaired by the Department's Executive Assistant Director, Greg Harris. "The development of this form will be best accomplished with the viewpoints represented by these individuals. I want to thank each of them for their willing assistance and dedication to this effort," said Greene.

The work on the form, including its translation into Spanish, will be completed by early July, before the July 21 effective date for Senate Bill 1445.
