INSURANCE DIRECTOR CHANGES IN THE INSURANCE AGENT PRE-LICENSING EXAMINATION TO TAKE EFFECT OCTOBER 1, 1997

Department of Insurance Director John A. Greene today announced that changes in the insurance agent pre-licensing examinations will take effect October 1, 1997. The update will include a new Series 13-41: Broker's Surplus Lines exam and four new Statute and Administrative Code Exams (Series 13-37 through 13-40) for Life, Disability (Accident/Health), and Property/Casualty to replace the former Series 13-00: Statute and Administrative Code exam. In addition, the Series 13-35: Bail Bond exam outline has been completely rewritten.

All changes are being implemented to furnish trainers, publishers, and candidates with more detail in the outlines, in order to provide helpful study guides for the prospective exam candidate. The annual examination review, conducted by the Department, Insurance Testing Corporation (ITC), the State's contractor for test administration, and staff from Drake University, ensures that the exams cover current topics and new changes in state law.

Beginning October 1, ITC will offer fingerprinting services at its Arizona Testing Centers. This service is optional. Candidates may pre-register to have their fingerprints taken at the time of their exam for a fee of $10. The fee for fingerprinting without an exam or pre-registration is $17. Fingerprinting services are also available through many local law enforcement offices.

The Department recommends that those affected by the changes to the licensing exams should contact ITC for a copy of the new 1997 Arizona Licensing Information Bulletin, which contains the new outlines. This bulletin will be available in August for examinations on or after October 1, 1997. Any license candidate planning to take a test October 1, 1997, or later should have a copy of the new Bulletin. It contains test content outlines, forms, and information on how to register and schedule tests with ITC.

When ordering Bulletins, specific requests should be made for either the current October 1996 Licensing Information Bulletin or the new edition planned for October 1997. Telephone requests may be made by calling ITC at 1-800-853-5448, ITC's toll-free number specific for Arizona candidates. Customized outlines and sections of the Bulletin are also available through ITC's home page on the World Wide Web at http://www.i-t-c-com.

Large orders (five or more) should include the complete street address for shipping purposes, as well as the number of Bulletins required for an initial three month supply. Requests may also be mailed to Insurance Testing Corporation, ATTN: Bulletin Distribution, 1360 Energy Park Drive, Second Floor, St. Paul, MN 55108-5252.
