Meet License Requirements

Consider the following facts before applying for an Arizona insurance license:

  • Not everyone qualifies for an insurance license. If you (individual or business entity) surrendered an Arizona insurance license, you cannot apply for an Arizona insurance license for one year. If you surrendered a line of license authority from an insurance license, you cannot apply for the same license authority for a year. ARS § 20–289(F).

Also, the Department can deny a license for any cause listed in Arizona Revised Statutes ("ARS") § 20–295. You should review this statute before deciding to spend the time, effort and money to apply for a license. If you apply for a license, you must truthfully and completely answer questions asked on the application, and you may need to provide additional documentation.
  • Except for confidential pieces of information such as your birth date and social security number, your application and documentation will be a matter of public record, which means that any member of the public can view or obtain a photocopy of the information.

Before the Department of Insurance can issue a license, an applicant must meet certain qualifications that depend upon

  • whether the applicant is an individual or a business entity,
  • whether the applicant is an Arizona resident or a nonresident, and
  • the license authority that the applicant wants to have.
